Temple, TX — Army Master Sergeant CJ Grisham, the man at the center of a viral video involving open carry laws in Temple, will avoid jail time.
In March, Grisham and his son were walking in west Temple in an effort to get his son a boy scout badge.
Grisham at the time was in possession of an AR15 semi-automatic rifle.
He was stopped by a police officer after somebody called the cops on him.
Grisham said he was carrying the rifle in case the two were confronted by a coyote or a feral hog.
The arrest and confiscation of his weapon was caught on video and sparked outrage among open-carry activists.
Grisham was charged with interfering with the duty of a public officer, but not having the gun in public.
He was found guilty Tuesday ,and Wednesday he was sentenced to a $2,000 fine.
Jurors decided against jail time for Grisham, who said he is planning on appealing the verdict.
