A dispute over a parked vehicle lead to deadly gunfire in Waco Wednesday night.

At around 9:15 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Preston to reports of shots fired. A second caller told authorities a man was down a short distance away.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Richard Wendell Watson, 54, lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Watson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators were able to determine the suspect, Anthony Christopher Johnson, 42, had gone to the address to visit his girlfriend when he saw Watson parked in front of the home. The two began to argue about Watson parking there until he left the scene.

Watson came back about 10 minutes later on a bike and they once again had words. The two began exchanging gunfire when Watson was hit and fled the scene on his bike, collapsing a block away.

Anthony Johnson was arrested for the murder of Richard Watson and booked into the McLennan County Jail. Mr. Watson’s body was sent to Dallas for autopsy by order of Judge Martin.
