Patriot Guard to escort fallen East Texas soldier Thursday

Tyler, TX (KETK) -- The North Texas Patriot Guard Riders will honor an East Texas soldier who recently died while serving his country.

PFC Christian Jacob Chandler, 20, of Texarkana, Texas, died April 28, 2014, in Baraki Barak District, Logar Province, Afghanistan.

Below is an excerpt from his obituary:

Jake graduated from Whitewright High School in 2012 where he was a Varsity All District offensive and defensive lineman. Following graduation Jake chose his career and enlisted in the United States Army. In October 2012, Jake began his training at Ft. Binning, GA. Following boot camp, he was stationed at Ft. Drum, NY where he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Jake deployed with his unit on November 5, 2013 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

During his military career, Chandler was decorated with the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

The Patriot Guard Ride will start their ride Thursday, May 8 at noon at the North Texas Regional Airport in Denison. The Guard will escort the family to Bells, Texas.

Funeral services for PFC Christian Jacob "Jake" Chandler will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel in Bells/Savoy, Texas. Visitation will take place Friday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the same location.
