President relays tearful remarks regarding Connecticut elementary shooting
President Obama addressed the nation shortly after 2:00 p.m. regarding the elementary school shooting in Connecticut. During his remarks, he became visibly shaken and wiped tears from his eyes. .
“We’ve endured too many of these tragedies over the past few years…I know there’s not a parent in America who doesn’t feel the same overwhelming grief that I do. The majority of the people who died today were children between the age of 5 and 10 years old.”
He spoke about his personal feeling as a father, and asks people to be considerate of the families of those involved in this tragedy.
“In the hard days to come, that community needs us to be our best as Americans…All of us can extend a hand in need…”
The details regarding the shooting are still developing. So far officials have confirmed that the shooter is Ryan Lanza, 24. He went to the school and first entered the principal’s office, then went to his mother’s classroom and killed her along with all of the children in the room. Lanza’s brother was detained at the scene and is being questioned. Another family member was found shot to death at a home in Connecticut.
