Proposal could require dogs, cats in Waco to be spayed/neutered, micro-chipped

A new mandate being proposed by the Waco Animal Welfare Advisory Board may soon require all dogs and cats in the city to be micro-chipped and almost all of them spayed or neutered.

The only animals exempt from spaying and neutering are those that have a special permit to breed, those medically unfit for the operation, show animals, and those who are not of breeding age. City officials backing the proposal say it will cut down on the number of stray and unwanted animals in the area.

A public meeting on the proposal will be held May 30 at 6 p.m.
