Quick response by mailman lands three in jail for home invasion

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 - 3:49pm

KILLEEN -- A local mailman reports a home invasion in progress, now three Killeen men are behind bars.

While on duty near the intersection of Zinnia and Florence, a mailman spotted a suspicious vehicle parked outside a home nearby.

He notified police and the closest officer happened to be responding to another burglary just blocks away.

Officials tell us they're investigating whether or not the two crimes are connected but fortunately a quick response resulted in three arrests.

"The vehicle was suspicious enough that they checked this house out and the burglars were burglarizing -- from this car they were burglarizing this house. So when the officers got up there one ran out the front door, one ran out the back door, and then one was still in the car," said Carroll Smith, Killeen P.D.

Smith says without the quick response of the mailman and officers the burglars may not have been caught.
