BRYAN, Tx (KYLE) — The Queen Theater rightfully has her royal status back as Downtown Bryan's signature landmark but it hasn't been easy getting here.
"We've been working on this project for the last three and a half years," said Downtown Bryan Association's chairmen, Ben Hardeman. "It's taking a while but we knew if would when we tackled it."
Realizing the historical significance of the building, the DBA purchased the deteriorating theater back in 2010.
Now, after more than three years of hard work and labor, Hardeman says they're finally starting the last phase of the project; the interior renovations.
"The bottom floor, the ground floor, will be terraced so we can set up table and chairs, it'll have a small stage and it will also have a movie screen so it can be used for a wide variety of activities," Hardeman said.
The renovations wouldn't be possible without the generous donations from the community.
Jesse Palomares quickly hopped on board and is donating the concrete. He said it was an easy decision to make.
"I grew up here and enjoyed coming down to some of the businesses down here so I'm just happy I can contribute something to the renovations and the growth of Downtown Bryan," said Palomares, owner of Palomares Construction Inc. "I look forward to enjoying the Queen Theater again with the different functions it will provide "
It's all in an effort to 'Save the Queen' and with the third and final phase underway, the DBA hopes to have all the renovations complete by November to coincide with the royal icon's 100 year anniversary.
