Waco, Texas — Richland Mall, in Waco, is set to undergo a multi-million dollar renovation beginning today.
Mall officials announced this is the second renovation in the mall's 34-year history, when they opened in 1980. The first renovation came in 1996.
Some of the upgrades include changing the mall's landscaping, updating entrances, new flooring and decor, upgraded restrooms, and more. The mall's logo will also be changed. Officials say the new logo will be more multi-functional.
Construction will take place every night after the mall closes until before the start of business the next day, as not to disrupt businesses.
"It's just time. This is what happens in the shopping center business. You've got to keep up. You've got to improve. You've got to make changes, as far as amenities and look," said Richland Mall General Manager Kandace Menning.
At this time, Menning says the mall hasn't signed on any new retailers, but they are in constant communication to bring in more.
The renovation is expected to be complete by November, just in time for holiday shopping.
