WACO -- Some lucky people in Waco will have the chance to catch relief from the heat.
The Salvation Army is partnering with TXU Energy in a Beat the Heat campaign.
With temperatures going back into the 90's, the Salvation Army will offer relief to qualifying TXU customers by providing a window unit air conditioner, a ceiling fan or a box fan.
"There's a lot of senior citizens in our community that don't have the means to have a cool house. We know that we can't help the entire community, we can't cool an entire house but if we can give someone at least one cold room, one cool sanctuary, that's going to help them a lot," said Heather Helton, spokesperson for the Salvation Army of Central Texas.
Those interested can register by appointment only from June 4-15.
Those requesting assistance are required to bring a photo ID for all adults in the household, social security cards, current lease agreement, proof of income and expenses for the last 30 days, copy of current TXU bill, and Doctor’s note verifying health condition(s).
A home visit by case manager is required to receive air conditioning unit. Call to set up your appointment today at 254.756.7271.
