After years of planning and months of construction Monday the Scott and White Hospital, off Rock Prairie Road and Highway Six in College Station, finally opened its doors for the first time and they hit the ground running.

"It feels really good," said Dr. Thomas O'Shea, an orthopedic surgeon. "We've been waiting for this day a long time. We've talked about a hospital in this community for at least the past 15 years so it's really nice that the time has finally come."

By 6:00 A.M. some of the first patients had already been admitted.

Belva Field was one of them, "I had a total hip replacement and I'm glad it's behind me."

Just hours after surgery Field told us she waited seven months to have her hip replaced.

"Well Dr. O'Shea did my first surgery and it went so well that I wanted him to do this one so I waited and I waited for the whole team," Field said.

The new 143-bed acute care facility makes this the third hospital in the Twin Cities and Scott and White CEO, Jason Jennings, said it's only going to help improve health care in the Brazos Valley.

"Competition, in no matter what industry it is, always raises the bar and we have two great other health care facilities and Scott and White is proud to be a part of the health care community for many years," said Jennings.

And as the hospital celebrated its first day serving the community; the first Scott and White baby, a healthy 8-pound baby boy, was delivered this morning... a symbolic sign of a new beginning.
