Scott & White Memorial Hospital, in Temple, has been ranked for the ninth time as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics based on an annual study that measures overall organizational performance. Scott & White Memorial was the only major teaching hospital in Texas to receive this year’s honor and leads all Texas hospitals with nine appearances on the list since the study began in 1993.

“We are honored to receive this recognition and it speaks to our commitment to building a new, trusted national model of care,” said Bob Pryor, MD, President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Medical Officer of Baylor Scott & White Health. “By offering personalized health and promoting wellness to communities we serve, we can help people get healthy and stay healthy.”

The award recognizes hospitals that are able to achieve high-quality patient outcomes while improving efficiency. The study evaluated hospitals on measures of overall organizational performance, including patient care, operational efficiency, and financial stability.

“Our community benefits as we consistently strive to provide patients with quality medical care,” said Stephen Sibbitt, MD, chief medical officer of Scott & White Memorial Hospital – Temple. “The staff here works diligently to establish various processes and ways to continuously monitor and evaluate their performance to ensure the level of care they are providing meets the standard that has come to be expected by both our patients and our organization.”

According to Truven Health Analytics, if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated at Scott & White and other hospitals listed on the 100 Top list:
● More than 165,000 additional lives could be saved
● Nearly 90,000 additional patients could be complication-free
● $5.4 billion could be saved
● The average patient stay would decrease by half a day
Truven Health researchers evaluated 2,803 short-term, acute-care, nonfederal hospitals using public information such as Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website.

Scott & White Hospital – Round Rock is also among the 100 Top Hospitals (Small Community Hospital) receiving its first award. For complete list of the 100 Top Hospitals for 2014, visit www.truvenhealth.com.
