Waco , TX — A Waco man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for three sexual assault charges.
Antoine Demetruis Degrate, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of habitual indecency with a child and one count of habitual attempted aggravated sexual assault, and received 45 years in prison for each. Degrate also pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender, which is an enhanced charge, and received 15 years in prison. The sentences will run concurrent.
"Antoine Degrate is a habitual predator who will be spending the foreseeable future in prison. McLennan County children are safe from this pedophile due to the courage of a young girl," said Gabrielle Massey, Assistant District Attorney.
On June 18, 2013, Degrate was arrested on a $32,000 bond after police arrested him on criminal solicitation of a minor and indecency with a child by contact charges. Police say Degrate is a registered sex offender in the area.
On February 6, 2013, Degrate reportedly touched a 12-year-old girl inappropriately on a Waco Transit System bus and asked the victim if he could perform a sex act on her. Police say the girl told the bus driver who then stopped the bus. Degrate reportedly jumped off the bus and ran when confronted.
U.S. Marshal's Task Force deputies executed a warrant at Degrate's home on June 18. Degrate reportedly ran back inside the home before he was arrested. That led to an additional charge of evading arrest.
