Social media helping find criminals in Waco

WACO -- Procrastinating on Facebook just got a whole lot more useful.

Thanks to a Facebook page that posts pictures of local criminals online so you can help Waco detectives identify the offenders.

"We'll have pictures of suspects who, say they passed a forged check at a store, and we can see them on the video passing the check. We know we have enough evidence to get a warrant for their arrest, we just don't know why they are," Detective Aaron Whelchel, Waco Police Department and creator of the page.

That's where you come in, and to see the page, you don't even need a Facebook account.

Just go to www.facebook.com/wacopolicedepartmentneighborhoodservicesdetectives.

There you'll see surveillance photos of wanted criminals as well as the phone number to the detective working the case.

But when you "like" the page, you'll get updates when there are new photos posted.

The site went live April 25th, and in less than a month, three criminals have been identified.

"We've already had two arrests as a result of the public helping us out," Detective Whelchel said.

So word to the wise:

"if you commit certain crimes in Waco we're going to plaster it on Facebook."
