Bell County — me of the Belton and Stillhouse Hollow Lake Parks could possibly be closed this winter.
Last night the the Army Corps of Engineers asked Bell County residents for their input on the partial and full closers of certain Parks between the months of October to February.
During the winter months, the proposed partial park closures will impact the Cedar Ridge,Temple's Lake, Live Oak Ridge, Westcliff, Belton Lakeview, Dana Peak, Union Grove and Stillhouse Parks
Full closures could impact the Arrowhead, Owl Creek, Winkler, White Flint and Sparta Valley Park.
The Coprs is considering the closures to help reprioritize their budget.
"We looked at the visitation on Belton and Stillhouse Lakes and we noticed that 80% of it occurs in the summertime," Said Ronnie Bruggman, Reservoir Manager.
Bruggman said, those wishing to camp with large groups at certain closed parks can buy a Lake Activity Permit. There are parks located just miles away with the capacity to house other campers.
"As cost increases, the parks budget has flat lined. We are trying to be very frugal with taxpayers dollars," he said.
The Army Corps will take public comment until Aug 30th.
