The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has issued a notice of violation to the city of Bellmead for having junked cars on public property.

The city received notice of the violation on Tuesday, June 17. TCEQ has given until July 16 for the city to notify them of what clean up has been done up until that time. Bellmead City Manager Bo Thomas says the city is cooperative in cleaning up the land. They hope to set up a meeting with the TCEQ before July to find the best way to clean up the junkyard.

"It's the public's property, and it needs to be reserved for public use. What they're doing is going through a normal process of trying to make sure that they get compliance in the whole area," said Thomas.

The city has not been fined for the violation. TCEQ has requested receipts and pictures to be taken of the progress being made on clearing the land. At this time, the city says the TCEQ is still conducting their investigation into the city's land being used for a junkyard.
