Temple, TX — Temple Firefighters will be on local street corners Thursday throught Saturday, April 3 through 5, 2014 holding their annual Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Firefighters will collect from motorists who wish to donate. Firefighters will remain in service and respond to calls. Donations may be dropped at the Fire Station Training Center, located at 7268 Airport Road, Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In 2014, the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and MDA are celebrating 60 years of a partnership committed to saving lives. The IAFF is MDA’s largest national sponsor helping raise funds allowing the Muscular Dystrophy Association to assist people and families with lifesaving help. In 2013, Temple Firefighters collected over $36,000 through Fill the Boot campaign.
Proceeds from Fill the Boot also help provide comprehensive health care and support services for over 700 local families including: three clinics provided free of charge to client families, annual summer camp at Camp John Marc in Meridian, Texas, assistance with repairs of medical equipment, and an equipment loan program.
MDA is the world’s leading nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases. MDA research grants currently are supporting more than 250 projects worldwide.
