Temple, TX — A man wanted in connection to a homicide that occurred in Temple last Thursday night has been arrested.
John Nichols surrendered himself to authorities at the Bell County Jail, police said on Friday.
On Friday, detectives from the Temple Police Department presented their initial findings in the investigation into Thursday night’s homicide on South Knob Street to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office. A criminal complaint was obtained and a warrant issued by J.P. Theodore Duffield charging John Nichols, a 24-year-old Temple man, with the murder of LaCrea Hill.
According to police, the shooting happened Thursday night, at about 11:55 p.m. Temple police responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the 700 block of S. Knob Street. First responders located an adult female in the roadway with a life-threatening head wound. The victim, identified as LaCrae Hill, a 20-year-old Temple woman, was transported to Scott and White Hospital where she succumbed to the injury.
At this time, the preliminary investigation indicates Hill and a subject known to her were involved in an altercation. During the course of the argument the suspect produced a handgun and fired at Hill, striking her in the head.
