HOUSTON (KTRK) — Just hours after speaking at his daughter's vigil, a father is now charged in her death, and the death of her girlfriend.
James Larry Cosby, a Houston area father, is now in jail accused of the murders of his daughter, Britney Cosby, and her girlfriend, Crystal Jackson.
The 46-year-old man was interrogated and detained shortly after this candlelight vigil on Wednesday night. A vigil where Cosby seemingly struggled to find words to address the large crowd of the victims' family and friends.
"It's really, you can't really put something like this into words, it's really bad."
Galveston County investigators say they detained Cosby after searching his home on Howcher Street in Houston that Cosby shared with the victims.
Detectives say they believe both women were murdered here before being dumped many miles away on Bolivar Peninsula.
"His house was a secondary crime scene, from the evidence that we saw when we went to interview him, and we did recover certain parts of evidence that are here at our sheriff's office now to be sent to the lab."
Family members gathering at Cosby's home after his arrest told KTRK they didn't want to comment on camera. Many still remembered his words about the murder victims during the vigil.
For now, Cosby, a convicted sex offender whose criminal history includes assault and weapons related arrests, is charged with two counts of tampering with evidence as investigators continue searching for the victim's missing silver 2006 Kia Sorrento.
The charges might be upgraded to capital murder as the investigation continues.
James Cosby remains in a Galveston on a $500,000 bond.
