San Antonio, TX — A Texas man took matters into his own hands when an armed burglar tried to break into his home.
The homeowner foiled a crime in progress with help from his neighbors.
In far west San Antonio, Landel Carlisle heard someone knocking at his front door. Little did he know, he was in for a scare of a lifetime.
"So I'm thinking, 'Yo, who's knocking?' I look over, I look at my cell phone; I said, 'Uh oh. No one called me. Someone is trying to show up unannounced.' I'm thinking I might have a stalker or something. I thought it was a girl trying to come out," Carlisle said.
What he heard was someone trying to break into his home. Then he heard the burglar move to the back of the house.
"I put my shoes on, grabbed a hammer. I went out to my backyard and I opened the door. As soon as I opened the door, I said. 'Well, what are you trying to do!?' He ran outside, jumped the gate, shot his gun at me twice. I ducked.... and when he saw my gun, I tried to look to see where he went. I ducked back and came in the house got my phone and tried to call the cops," Carlisle said.
Carlisle says that's when his neighbors got involved and tried to catch the burglar. He chased the man to the getaway car and jumped inside.
"And I grabbed him by the neck and I tried to get him in a choke hold and I was wrestling with him and he shot at me. I ducked the shot. I tried to get the gun and hold his wrists at the same time and that's when I bit his ear. I bit something, whatever I could bite to try to get loose of the gun. It didn't work, I punched him. That didn't work. When punched him, I let loose of his right arm. So he had both of his hands on the gun at that time," Carlisle said.
At this point, the burglar pointed the gun at Carlisle. He jumped out of the car and the robber got away.
"I did a stupid move. I do not recommend anyone fight anyone with a gun. The eyes are out. Neighbors are outside and they cant do this no more. They are going to be out here so hopefully this doesn't happen again," said Carlisle.
If the neighbors don't intervene, Carlisle says fate will. "What goes around comes around and one day you will get caught if you keep living that path."
