An intersection in Temple remains closed following a traffic collision that left the signal lights damaged.

According to police, on Thursday, January 9, at 3:44 a.m., Temple Police and Temple Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Airport Road (SH 36) and N.W. HK Dodgen Loop (Loop 363).

Officers arrived on scene to find a semi truck traveling northbound on NW HK Dodgen Loop (Loop 363) had attempted to turn westbound on Airport Road (SH 36). The vehicle struck the utility pole supporting the traffic lights at the intersection, breaking the pole and causing the lights to fall. The vehicle came to rest blocking the north bound lanes of NW HK Dodgen Loop (Loop 363). No one was injured in the crash.

Emergency crews were on the scene following the accident, and drivers have been encouraged to find alternate routes for their commutes. Delays should be expected as crews work to repair and replace the damaged signals. Commuters should watch for alternative traffic control devices in the area until the signal light repairs can be completed and are asked to exercise caution if they must use this intersection.

Although it is undetermined if the wet roadways or the weather was a factor in this crash; police want to remind all citizens and commuters to allow extra time in inclement weather conditions. Driver’s should slow their speed, increase their following distances, and utilize extra caution when traveling on the wet roadways.

An update will be provided when additional information is available.
