WACO — Two people were hospitalized this afternoon after a major wreck involving 3 semis on I-35 in Waco.
The pile-up happened in the southbound lanes near South 18th Street. Waco police say three semis were traveling southbound in the 1700 block of I-35 when a truck in the fast lane hydroplanined and hit the center median, then careened back toward the right, crashing into another truck in the center lane. This pushed both trucks into a third semi which hit the guardrail to the far right of the highway.
Firefighters on scene contained a small amount of diesel fuel that spilled during the accident.
Interstate traffic was narrowed to one lane for about 3 hours.
Two drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The third driver did not need medical attention.
The wreck is cleared, but traffic is still backed up.
Waco police tell confirm a major crash at 7th and I-35.
At least three "big trucks" are involved and southbound lanes are completely shut down.
