UPDATE (12:21 p.m.): A Dallas firefighter is dead after an early morning condominium fire. Friends and colleagues paid their respects as the flag-draped body of Stanley Wilson, 28, was carried from the charred ruins of the condo building.

Firefighters lined up to salute wilson as he was carried to a waiting EMS truck.

The fire was reported just before 3:00 a.m., at the three-story complex. The building was so engulfed in flames some residents were trapped and had to be rescued.

Wilson was also trapped inside the burning building and was unable to get out. Firefighters couldn't reach him in time.

A firefighter was trapped early Monday in a six-alarm blaze at a Dallas condominium complex, the city's fire department said. A search is on for the firefighter, one of a team responding to the blaze at the Hearthwood North Condominiums, in northeast Dallas.

"When firefighters arrived at the location, there was lots of smoke coming from the roof of a three-story condominium building," the department said. "An offensive fire attack was initially attempted, but the fire was growing too quickly and caused them to have to move out for a defensive attack."

The fire has been classified as a six-alarm blaze for several reasons, the department said, including the search. Two residents were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

Two injured firefighters were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover. At least five residents have been rescued, the department said. The Red Cross has been called to help displaced residents.
