VA hospital and Baylor team up to study effects of deployment
WACO -- The Waco Veterans Affairs Hospital and Baylor University are teaming up to research how deployment affects military members and their families.
By surveying Fort Hood soldiers, the goal is to learn what happens while the families prepare for deployment and the impact after soldiers leave.
Researchers tell us by combining this information they can better understand what to do ahead of and during deployment to reduce stress levels.
"We need to do everything that we can to help military service members and their families deploy and cope with these deployments because they can be very stressful both in the war zone as well as home," said Sandra Morissette, VISN 17 Center of Excellence Assessment Core Leader.
500 Fort Hood soldiers will be surveyed along with parents and families of the soldiers selected.
Morissette says they hope to have all data collected within a year.
