Vandals spray paint '666' on Dallas church, landmarks

Tuesday, July 1, 2014 - 5:57pm

Police in Dallas are trying to figure out if they have a hate crime on their hands after someone spray-painted 666 on a half-dozen Dallas landmarks.

Police believe it started in the Cathedral of Hope, the self-described "nations largest gay church." Parishioners found the vandalism waiting for them Sunday morning. The photos were captured by church members.

A mile to the south of the church, the entrance of Dallas' gay entertainment and lifestyle boulevard, the monument known as the Legacy of Love was also stained with the remnants of the washed away 666.

This is malicious and hateful and cowardly. Police identified six vandalized locations, including the print media homes of the Dallas Morning News, D Magazine and the Dallas Observer.

Police do not believe the acts were random.

Right now, police are tentatively labeling it a hate crime, due to July being gay pride month and the significance of the locations.
