Waco, TX (KWKT) — The 30th annual National Travel and Tourism Week will take place across the country May 4-12.
Travel and tourism is a $460.8 million industry for Waco & the Heart of Texas, generating $6.3 million in local tax revenue annually. Travel employs a broad and diverse workforce, from airline and hotel employees to restaurant, attraction and retail workers. Travel further supports employees in other industry sectors, such as construction, manufacturing and finance.
To celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week, the Waco & the Heart of Texas Tourist Information Center (TIC) will
have cookies and coffee available for visitors, sponsored by Hampton Inn & Suites Waco – South. The TIC is located at
106 Texas Ranger Trail. The Waco Convention Center (WCC) will have cookies available inside the main office,
sponsored by Collin Street Bakery. The WCC is located at 100 Washington Avenue.
According to the U.S. Travel Association, travel and tourism generated $2.0 trillion in economic output for the U.S.
economy in 2012. Direct spending by domestic and international travelers averaged $2.3 billion a day, $97.7 million
an hour, $1.6 million a minute and $25,125 a second.
