Waco, Tx — Waco Police Department has made an arrest in a 1991 murder case.
Thomas Michael Kolar, 54, was arrested Wednesday after the McLennan County Grand Jury issued an indictment earlier that morning. Kolar was arrested at his job shortly after noon.
This arrest stems from a murder case that occurred on July 20, 1991 at 3908 Watt. Police responded to a death call and found 28-year-old Amy Elaine Kolar dead at the home. The investigation revealed that Amy’s cause of death was from asphyxia due to strangulation. The case was completed in 1991, and the suspect in Amy’s death, Thomas Kolar, who was Amy's husband, was arrested. The case was transferred to the McLennan County District Attorneys office for prosecution.
Since that time, the detective assigned to the 1991 case of the murder of Amy Kolar was doing follow-up on other cases and saw there was never a disposition of Amy’s case. It is unknown why this case never went to trial. However, the detective recently met with the District Attorneys office, and they presented the case to the grand jury, who in turn issued the indictment Wednesday.
Thomas Michael Kolar was transported to the McLennan County Jail and has been charged, again, in the 1991 murder of Amy Kolar.
