Waco, Texas — A Waco man has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison Wednesday after previously pleading guilty to possession of an unregistered firearm.
Richard Summerset has also been sentenced to three years supervised release following his release from prison. He has also been ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
Summerset was arrested after multiple law enforcement agencies responded to his South Waco home on the afternoon of April 7 after a tip lead to a pipe bomb being discovered in an ice chest behind the house. According to Waco Police Department, the call came in around noon to a home, located in the 2800 block of Columbus Avenue. McLennan County Sheriff's Office Bomb Techs, ATF, Waco Fire Department, and ETMC all responded to the scene. McLennan County Bomb Techs used a robot to help render the bomb device safe.
During the ordeal, authorities had several homes in the area evacuated. No other explosive devices were found, and around 8:30 p.m., police told the media all residents had been allowed to return home.
As a result of the investigation, "one person of interest" was detained, and with the assistance of the ATF, Waco PD's Special Crimes detectives interviewed that male individual. The suspect was identified as Summerset.
