Waco officer shot at in local park

A Waco police officer is allegedly shot at Wednesday night at Bells Hill Park.

According to the Waco Police Department, shortly before 11 p.m., an officer who was on routine duty stepped out of his car and was shot at by an unknown person in the 500 block of South 26th Street.

The officer claims he was doing his normal rounds when he got of his car to walk around and two bullets whizzed past him. He immediately called for help and the park was roped off by authorities.

With the assistance of a K-9 unit and helicopter, police spotted a vehicle parked in the area with two people inside. The suspected weapon was found outside the car, but investigators are still trying to determine if they were involved in the shooting.
