Within the last week, from February 21 to February 24, Waco Police Department says they've worked at least 16 vehicle vandalism cases.

Waco PD says the windows of dozens of vehicles have been broken out by what appears to be BB or pellet guns used to shoot out the windows on parked and unoccupied vehicles. Police say it may be possible that the persons responsible are using the “Wrist Rocket” type of slingshot as well. Estimated damage costs so far are several thousand dollars.

Beginning last Friday morning, February 21, officers were called to locations in the Northwest Waco area by victims of these incidents. Officers continued receiving the calls throughout the weekend, and most of these cases occurred in the area bordered by 19th Street to the Chimney Hill Addition and from Park Lake to Herring Avenue. The mischief is occurring during the nighttime hours.

Police believe the suspect/s are driving a vehicle, pull up to the victims’ vehicle, and shoot out windows. The suspect/s then flee the area. At this point the victims cannot provide any description of a vehicle or suspect/s.

Victims who may not have reported similar incidents are encouraged to do so. Police are also asking for the citizen’s assistance in identifying the suspect/s involved. If you have any information, police are asking you to contact Detective Eric Hawkins at 750-3611 or Crime Stoppers at 753-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward.
