Authorities are investigating an aggravated assault and officer involved shooting a local club early this morning.

It happened at 2:43 a.m. in the 1010 block of north 25th Street in Waco.

When Waco Police officers arrived on scene, they learned that an off duty Marlin officer working security at the club was also involved.

A disturbance inside the club led to the suspect(s) shooting a weapon inside the club. The Marlin officer went into the club to investigate the distrubance and while inside, another disturbance started outside.

As the officer went back out he saw a black male shooting at several other black males.

The Marlin officer fired his weapon at the shooter in the defense of others that were being shot at.

"The officer was actually shooting at the suspect that was shooting at other individuals. He was obviously in fear for the ones being shot at, that they were going to get hit. So, he discharged his weapon at the shooter," said Waco PD Spokesman Sergeant W.P. Swanton.

The suspects and victims fled the scene.

Shortly after the shooting, a dispatcher was notified that a victim was at Providence Hospital. That victim had a gunshot wound to his leg.

Waco Police Department's Special Crime Scene Technicians were called to assist in the investigation.

Police are working the shooting inside the club and the officer involved shooting as two seperate incidents.

Both incidents are under investigation at this time.
