Woman indicted for stealing more than $100,000 from a local church

A former church employee was indicted on Wednesday for stealing more than 100,000 from the Lakewood Christian church in Waco.

Jonell Eason was indicted for theft more than $100,000 but less than $200,000.

According to an affidavit, Eason was in charge of making payments and handling donated money for the church.

The church discovered the monies donated were not being deposited and payments to the IRS were not being made.
After an audit was conducted, the church discovered a $118,000. shortage from their account which Eason was responsible for.
Jonell admitted to embezzling the money and agreed to make payments. The affidavit stated she did not repay the agreed upon payment method. Eason was initially arrested in March and is currently out on bond.
