Waco, Texas — A Waco woman has been sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years for the 2008 murder of her mother and attack on her mother's boyfriend.
Yalanda Renee Lind's trial began last week. Yesterday, a McLennan County jury added 20 years onto her sentenced after she was convicted of aggravated assault as well as murder.
“We are extremely pleased with the jury’s verdict. Yalanda Lind committed a senseless, horrifying murder of her mother. She was brought to justice through the work of the Waco Police Department and the tireless effort of investigators in the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office. Becky Leonard can finally rest in peace. I am honored to have been able to stand with this family through these trying times,” said Assistant District Attorney Michael J. Jarrett of the sentence.
According to authorities, Lind stabbed her mother, Rebecca Leonard to death in October 2008. Rebecca's boyfriend, Jerry Patterson was also stabbed during the attack. Patterson managed to survive.
Following the attack, Lind's ex-boyfriend, Jeremy Lowery, was also charged with capital murder for his role in Rebecca's death and the attack on her boyfriend. He pleaded guilty to the charge in June 2012. Lowery was later sentenced to life in prison on a lesser charge of murder.
