Nancy It's a different sort of issue in stotaiiuns where the attorney is paid by a different entity than the client, and so is potentially facing a bill reviewer that thinks the lawyer is spending too much while the client may not agree. Examples that come to mind are insurance defense work (representing the insured, paid by the insurer), or appointed counsel for prisoners or criminal defendants. Perhaps in the latter situation, the person reviewing the bills isn't responsible for the money used to pay them; not sure. But in the first example, the person that pays the bill is reviewing the bill and reviewing it.
