Killeen Police Department — Killeen Police are investigating a fatal auto pedestrian hit and run crash that occurred during the early morning hours on December 2.
Officers responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit in the 1000 block of South State Highway 195 at 1:10 a.m. Upon the officers arrival, they found a deceased black male lying in the inside lane of the northbound traffic. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the 46-year-old victim deceased at 1:58 a.m. and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The preliminary investigation revealed that two males were attempting to cross highway 195 from the east side of the roadway to the west side. One of the males was successful in making his way across the roadway when he looked back to see a white single cab pickup, that was traveling northbound in the inside lane, strike the other male. The pickup continued to drive northbound on 195 without stopping. A 2013 Nissan Sentra, traveling northbound behind the pickup, ran over the male that had been struck by the pickup. The driver of the Nissan stayed on scene and was identified by officers.
The name of the victim has been withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
