Temple, TX — An elaborate scheme to rob his own store has resulted in the store manager being arrested Wednesday.
On October 7, 2012, Carl Enderby, 22, told Temple Police he and a store clerk were robbed at gunpoint.
Enderby said he was about transport a bank deposit when an armed, black male made the store clerk get into a vehicle.
After being forced to drive the robber away, the store clerk stated he was hit in the head with a pistol and that the robber fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Turns out, the whole story was fake.
Temple PD has seen this kind of thing before.
“People do it generally for, what they believe to be, easy money," said Chistopher Wilcox of Temple Police.
Wilcox said, "The problem is that in the end, it hurts all of us because the companies have to make back the money that they are out. So higher prices and the cost is generally past on to all the other consumers.”
Enderby has been charged with felony theft.
A fellow accomplice at the store who helped made a deal and will receive two years probation.
