Waco, TX — The Baylor Bears don’t play the UCLA Bruins in the Holiday Bowl until tomorrow night, but today 280
lucky students departed for San Diego.
After putting in a couple hard weeks of practice, the Baylor football team loosened up at San Diego's Sea World this week..
And now it’s time for Baylor fans to join in on the fun.
For a mere 100 bucks, the students get a roundtrip bus ride, a hotel stay, a shirt, a chance to be in the parade and of course, a ticket to Baylor’s third straight bowl game.
Jonathan Evans is going as a volunteer chaperone.
Evans said, “It’s an outstanding deal. I think they estimated the trip would be 1,500 dollars otherwise."
“I was on the borderline. I was thinking, ‘It’s really cool we got in the Holiday Bowl but it’s too far," said Baylor junior Eric Grant. "Then Bayor gave this great offer and I thought, ‘For sure, I’m going to go.’ So I called up mom and dad and
said, ‘I’m going to California!”
He, along with 279 of his classmates, will be arriving in San Diego tomorrow on six travel busses.
Not only is Baylor Nation arriving in Southern California with newly-wrapped busses, but they’re also putting up billboards throughout the area.”
“You know Texans make up the biggest percentage of Baylor students, but California is actually the
second-largest feeder state for Baylor," said Evans.
"So California is a big market for Baylor and so it only makes since
to take this bowl opportunity to advertise over there and draw attention to the university.”
Students and volunteers are going to make sure they do their part as well.
“We’re going to make sure our brand is known. They are definitely going to see Baylor Bears everywhere. We may do a couple sic’ ems here and there so it will be great," said Grant.
“There will be no doubt that it is Baylor coming to California because we got the buses decorated, we got the billboards waiting for us in California and so we’re going to take California by storm," said Evans.
