Hewitt, TX — The city of Hewitt opened a brand new playground today designed for kids of all ages and abilities.
The $150,000 project was funded with tax payers' money as well as a generous $20,000 donation from the Waco Kiwanis Club.
Ramps make the park accessable for all kids.
In addition, the entire park has padded flooring for safety.
Robert Smith approached the city council with the idea after a conversation he had with his son who asked why kids in wheelchairs didn’t have a playgpound of their own.
“They need to play together and learn from one another. And we don’t have a lot of areas that are handicap-accessible. Children with special needs can play. Children with coordination problems can learn and it’s important for them to learn from one another," said Smith.
The almost 5,000 square-foot project is located just inside Hewitt Park.
