Bellmead, TX — Bellmead police arrested a woman after she allegedly dropped her baby to the ground to escape arrest during a traffic stop.
According to Detective Michael Miller of the Bellmead Police Department, Britney Deckard, 27, of Bellmead, was pulled over on Sunday, around 1 p.m. for speeding in the 1400 block of Old Dallas Highway. The officer who stopped Deckard could smell the scent of marijuana coming from the car, and he reportedly asked her and her one-year-old daughter to get out while he searched the vehicle.
During the search, the officer discovered Deckard's license had been suspended multiple times. Deckard also allegedly attempted to walk away from the officer, leaving the scene, twice during the search. The officer reportedly told Deckard to call someone to come get her daughter. Shortly thereafter, Deckard is said to have dropped her child to the ground, which was estimated to be a three to four foot fall, and Miller said Deckard attempted to run. The officer tended to the child, to ensure her safety, before tazing Deckard to place her under arrest.
Deckard is charged with possession of marijuana, under two ounces, enhanced DWLI because she has a history of a suspended license, endangering a child, and evading arrest.
Deckard also had a warrant out for her arrest for manufacturing/ delivering a controlled substance.
The baby was uninjured and has been released to her dad.
