COLLEGE STATION, Tx (KYLE) — The Texas Engineering Extension Service trains around 80,000 firefighters every year and today they were awarded a much needed grant to help fund scholarships in the future.
TEEX was given a $25,000 grant from Firehouse Subs as part of the restaurant's public safety foundation.
The grant will fund scholarships for TEEX's fire and emergency response training program which will provide deserving firefighters the opportunity to get the best education possible.
The $25,000 grant will benefit 19 different firefighters throughout the state.
"It will definitely help the emergency responders of our state to be prepared for their jobs and duties and also help our state be more prepared for those disasters and incidents that may occur," said TEEX's Gordon Lohmeyer.
Lohmeyer says without this grant some of the firefighters who will receive the scholarships may not have otherwise been able attend the school.
