Killeen, TX — Killeen Police has seen an increase in the amount of reported scams and now they’re advising the public to be aware.
Some of the scams include lottery scams, online phishing scams and the grandparent scam.
The elderly who are online can be prone to these scams but Richard Kitterman of the BBB says anybody can be duped by an elaborate system.
A couple of tips?
Never give out personal information online, never pay for anything beforehand and take a deep breath- Many of the scammers use urgency to pressure the victim.
“Run it by somebody else who may know more than you. Call the Better Business Bureau. Call me. I’ll be happy to talk about it. I have seen most of these things and I can spot the red flags. Generally, if you don’t comply right away, they’re going to move on to greener pastures," said Kitterman.
Another good way to keep information private is to shred your bills and receipts.
