West, TX — After several days of clean-up following the April 17 fertilizer plant explosion, the city of West will be holding two household hazardous waste clean-up days.
From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, West residents can take certain items to 1329 North Davis Street, in the parking lot west of the nursing home, for collection.
Those items include household cleaners, small and barbeque sized propane cylinders, products containing Mercury (thermometers, thermostats, light-bulbs), pool chemicals, aerosol cans, paint related products, lawn and garden products (including fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides), materials containing asbestos (roofing tars), and automotive products (including oil, gasoline, oil filters, anti-freeze).
You are only allowed to dispose in five gallon container amounts or less. Please don't mix or consolidate the products, and bring them in their original containers if possible. Make sure the liquids are properly sealed to prevent leakage.
You must present a valid ID with your address to drop off these items.
