Waco, Tx — Jury selection in a delayed capital murder trial was set to begin Monday afternoon in a Waco courtroom.
Marcus Jerome Landrum, 32, is charged with capital murder.
Back in June, the trial was postponed because the defense claimed the prosecution had not provided them with evidence they needed to stand trial. It was also previously debated whether or not Landrum was competent enough to stand trial, due to his diagnosed chronic paranoid schizophrenia. However, after a stint in a state psychiatric facility, it was deemed Landrum could stand trial.
Landrum is charged with the death of Santiago Gonzalez, 70. Gonzalez was found beaten and stabbed to death at his home in January 2011. Authorities say Gonzalez suffered 26 stab wounds to his chest, back, and head. His dog was also killed, and his car was stolen.
