Temple, Texas (KWKT) — Two Temple Police Officers were taken to a local hospital last night after an intoxicated driver hits two officers and a firefighter while trying to arrest another intoxicated man.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a Temple Officer was investigating an intoxicated man in the 200 block of Souteast HK Dodgen Loop.
The man resisted the officer and fled into the service road where he was taken into custody.
Several other officers were called to the scene to assist the officer with the fighting suspect. The suspect resisted the officers efforts and was taken into custody.
While fighting with the officers the suspect received a minor scratch to his knee.
Officials called Temple Fire and Rescue to evaluate the suspect's knee before he was taken to Bell County Jail.
After he medically cleared to be taken to jail, the intoxicated man became combative again.
The man began to resist officers and personnel's efforts to place him into a police car.
The patrol vehicles were parked, blocking the right traffic lane of the service road.
A tan car, traveling east bound struck the back of one patrol unit causing that vehicle to strike the first police unit.
Two officers and one firefighter, who were trying to secure the arrested person into a car were hit by the police car.
The officers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, the firefighter was not taken but was reported to have received minor injuries as well.
Both officers were released back to duty that night.
The driver of the tan car, Gary Bruce Couch Jr, 28, of Temple was arrested for driving whie intoxicated and was taken to Bell County Jail.
