BRYAN, Tx (KYLE) — It may not look like much other than an empty field of trees now but in just a few short weeks construction will begin on a new 1$50 million pipe and tubing manufacturing facility.
"Axis will be producing 300,000 tons per year of ERW pipe and tube," said Vice President and General Manager of Axis Pipe and Tube, Francisco Garza. "Basically for the oil and gas industry."
It's a project two years in the making.
Garza said they began looking at 25 different locations but Bryan stood out above the rest.
Close proximity to the major metropolitan areas and easy access to the railroad are just a few of the reason why Axis picked Bryan.
"After a six month process we came here because basically the environment, the business friendly environment, the availability of skill labor, the logistics, the infrastructure and our location to the customers," Garza said.
Today city officials and Axis broke ground on the 183-acre facility in the Texas Triangle Park.
It'll bring around 500 new jobs to town and it's the largest business to come not only to the city of Bryan and Brazos County but also the region.
Bryan Mayor, Jason Bienski said, "This is a big business. This is one of the largest businesses to locate in the state of Texas this year so this is not just big for Bryan, it's big for the state of Texas and it's still settling in, sinking in so it's a surreal moment that we're celebrating today's groundbreaking."
We're told Axis Pipe and Tube hopes to be up and running by mid 2014.
