Lacy Lakeview, tx — A project more than twelve years in the making is finally being completed.
The Central Texas 9/11 Memorial will be dedicated tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at the Lacy Lakeview Veterans Memorial Park. It took years of stop and go efforts to coordinate work on the memorial, which was originally coordinated by Keep McLennan County Beautiful in 2002.
Bill Mahon and other veterans used around $11,000 they'd raised and downsized the original plans to finally complete the project.
"I think it's appropriate. I think we got everything in there that we needed to, and plus the city already had the twin towers here. So, it all worked out perfect. It's downsized quite a bit, but it was affordable with what we had raised already," said veteran Robert Carver, who has helped Mahon to coordinate work on the memorial.
The memorial features a replica of the twin towers, the Pentagon, and Flight 93. There will also be benches and bricks with names of donors who helped make the memorial possible.
Senator Birdwell will be the guest speaker at Saturday's dedication ceremony.
