Fort Hood, TX — The government shutdown is affecting thousands of civilian workers at Fort Hood, and is also forcing the base to close some health programs.
Among the programs shutdown or scaled back considerably are housing maintenance, commissary, survivor outreach services and relocation services.
The Carl L. Darnall Medical Center will be unaffected unless the shutdown lasts into next week.
The hospital will remain open everyday for emergency services.
Programs that will not be affected include all military operations in support of deployment or to execute orders approved by the Secretary of Defense.
Congress signed legislation to guarantee paychecks for deployed soldiers earlier this week.
