Honor Hike Across America
Waco, TX — Lance Robinson is a Vietnam veteran from Pennsylvania. He is trekking across the country and honoring first responders along the way.
This week he’s traveling across the Waco and Temple area.
“This specific hike started out of Tulsa on September 11," explained Robinson. “I went from Tulsa all the way to Dallas, to here in Waco and will continue on my way to Austin.”
Since 2010, he’s made it a mission to visit every state capital.
Not in the comforts of a car, but by foot. He and his custom-made rig called the Cart of Honor travel across the country visiting policemen, fire stations and any other first responders he crosses paths with.
“”I normally carry gear in there such as clothing, and hygiene products and food when I’m travelling from town-to-town that’s more than 100 miles away," said Robinson.
On Monday, he was a guest at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in Waco. Before that, he visited West where the April fertilizer blast claimed the life of 15 - eleven of which were firefighters.
The ultimate goal for Robinson is to create a day of observance on September 10 called 'Brother to Brother Day.'
As he puts it, ‘a day of unity before a day of sorrow.'
McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna spent some time with Robinson in Waco on Monday.
“I think what he is doing is very honorable," said Reyna. "He’s not calling attention to specific groups of individuals, he’s calling for all of us to work together as one. That’s kind of what the first responder is too. Whether you’re a Texas Ranger, or you’re a firefighter, or you're EMS, or a policeman – whatever it may be, together we are one brotherhood. We are one family. I think that’s what this is all about. I think it's honorable and something important to recognize.”
Robinson will reach Austin in two weeks, but it hasn’t been easy physically or financially.
