Temple, TX — The Temple Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is activating the Emergency Warming Center Plan starting Wednesday to provide a temporary warming space for homeless or distressed persons in the city.
This decision is based on data from the National Weather Service on the sustained nighttime predicted temperatures.
Warming Center locations are:
• Victory Ministries, 305 South 18th Street (men)
• Transformation Station, 503 East Central Avenue (men)
Resources are available to provide a warming location for women and children should the need arise. The warming centers will be open Wednesday, February 5 through Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Warming centers are possible due to the efforts of the City of Temple Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the not-for-profit Temple Emergency Warming Center Coalition (TEWCC), and the 2-1-1 System.
Warming Centers in Temple provide a place to bring people that would normally be out in the elements on an extremely cold evening indoors during the coldest hours of the night. Warming Centers provide a warm area for refuge, water, blankets, toilet facilities, and limited hygiene items.
Once activated, information on warming centers is available by contacting 211.
