Killeen, Texas (KWKT) — A group of well deserving students received college money from the Killeen Police Department on Thursday.
Six students, who are children of the department employees, received a $1,000 scholarship check from the Law Enforcement Assistance Fund, L.E.A.F. Since the program started back in 2006, the fund has donated around $300,000 to assist members of the police department and their families in times of need.
Three additional students received a $2,000 dollar scholarship from the Bobby Hornsby Memorial Fund.
Hornsby, was a member Killeen Police Department who was killed in the line of duty in July.
Bobby Horsnby wife, Kimberly Hornsby, said the scholarship fund is meant to support others to pursue their degrees, just as Bobby supported her.
