Killeen, Texas (KWKT) — A Killeen man has been arrested after he drove his vehicle to the store with his dog dragging behind his SUV.
Juan Francisco Ortiz-Nieves faces a felony cruelty to animal charge. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke on Monday.
According to an arrest affidavit, Killeen officers responded to the 2100 block of VMB in reference to an animal cruelty report.
The document states, witnesses saw a blue SUV driving down the road with a Golden Retriever dragging behind it.
Officer located Nieves and found him pouring water on the animals wound.The Retriever's wounds were so bad the animals muscles and bones were exposed. Nieves told police he had tied the dog to the back of the SUV to give him a bath. A short time later, he left to go to the store, forgetting the dog was still attached to the vehicle.
The dog underwent emergency surgery for his wounds.
